The Sierra de la Contraviesa, located about 70 kilometers southeast of Granada, was already mentioned in 1865 by Dr. Wilhelm Hamm in his famous "Book of Wines". After the great phylloxera plague that affected vineyards at the end of the 19th century, there was a tendency to plant vines that grew quickly and did not require special care.

With the grapes of these strains, the so-called “Costa wine” has been produced to this day, a local rosé with no pretensions of quality and often oxidized. At the same time, and for a relatively short time, a few viticulturists committed to the region and full of enthusiasm have rediscovered the potential of the area to produce great reds.
